Delicious & Healthy Biscuits N’ Gravy Bake: A Weight Watchers Friendly Recipe by The Skinnyish Dish

It’s a space where connections are forged, inspiration is shared, and genuine friendships thrive.

Among the many wonderful individuals I’ve had the pleasure of connecting with, Star, the brilliant mind behind the recently launched blog The Skinnyish Dish, truly shines. When Star first shared her exciting plans to start a blog, I knew it would be nothing short of amazing. Not only is she an incredibly talented cook, but her authentic and down-to-earth approach resonates deeply with so many of us in the Weight Watchers community. She keeps it real, she’s effortlessly cool, and her recipes are consistently delicious while remaining mindful of our health goals. This weekend, as I’m away, I reached out to Star, and she graciously agreed to share one of her mouth-watering, lightened-up creations with all of you here on my blog. Get ready to be inspired!

Hello everyone! I’m absolutely thrilled and incredibly grateful to be here. I want to extend my biggest, heartfelt thanks to Kate for her unwavering support, for taking me under her wing as I ventured into the exciting world of blogging, and especially for featuring me on her truly fabulous platform. You’re truly the best, girl!

For those who might not know me yet, let me introduce myself. My name is Star, also known as The Skinnyish Dish on Instagram. I’m a 20-something, living the sweet, simple life in a small town, and I’m a relatively new mama to my adorable little girl, Pepper! And yes, the decision to name her Pepper definitely had something to do with my immense love for all things food-related. The kitchen is my sanctuary, my happy place. It’s where I unwind, de-stress, and find a sense of complete control, even if just for a little while. You’ll often find me singing, dancing, and whipping up delicious dishes that consistently surprise people with how wonderfully ‘lightened up’ they are. Beyond the kitchen, I cherish cozy movie nights with popcorn, enjoying long walks outside with Pepper on beautiful days, gathering around bonfires on warm summer nights, indulging in well-deserved treats, exploring the aisles of Trader Joe’s, and tackling fun DIY projects.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been racking my brain trying to decide whether to share one of my already popular, tried-and-true recipes or to unveil a brand-new creation exclusively for Kate’s readers. Even as I’ve been sitting here writing this, the decision wasn’t quite made. But ultimately, I’m going with my almost-famous Biscuits N’ Gravy Bake. This recipe holds such a special place in my heart because it was the very first one I ever shared with my incredible Instagram family. The response was overwhelmingly positive and truly amazing, providing me with the confidence boost I desperately needed to finally get my own blog, The Skinnyish Dish, up and running!

This Biscuits N’ Gravy Bake is more than just a meal; it’s a wholesome, protein-packed breakfast designed to keep you feeling full and satisfied throughout your morning. It masterfully captures all the delicious, comforting essence of traditional Southern Biscuits N’ Gravy, but with a lighter, healthier twist. We achieve this by swapping out heavy ingredients for lighter alternatives like turkey breakfast sausage, egg substitute, and preparing the gravy mix with water instead of milk. This careful modification allows us to enjoy that beloved country classic guilt-free, making it an ideal choice for anyone looking to eat well without compromising on flavor.

I truly hope all of you enjoy this meal as much as my family and I do. I make this bake almost every other week, ensuring we always have convenient, ready-to-go breakfasts. And believe me, even with its regular appearance on our menu, we’re still not even a little bit tired of it – it reheats perfectly every single time, maintaining its incredible taste and texture. It’s a testament to how satisfying and delicious healthy eating can be. If you love this recipe, I warmly invite you to come on over to The Skinnyish Dish and explore some of my other creative and lightened-up culinary creations. Thank you, dear friends, and a massive thank you again to Kate for this incredible opportunity!

XO, Star

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray a 9×13 casserole dish with cooking spray.
  • Cook 8 ounces of raw turkey sausage until browned. Drain any excess fat and set aside.
  • Prepare the package of country gravy mix according to the directions on the package. For a lower calorie option, use water instead of milk to prepare the gravy. Set aside.
  • Evenly spread your biscuit pieces across the bottom of the prepared casserole dish. Pour the egg substitute over the biscuits, followed by the prepared gravy, and then sprinkle the cooked turkey sausage on top. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove the dish from the oven and evenly sprinkle the reduced-fat shredded cheddar cheese over the top. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Carefully cut the bake into 6 equal servings. Serve warm and ENJOY!
