For all precise measurements and complete, step-by-step instructions, please refer to the printable recipe card available at the very end of this post.

A vibrant flat lay showcasing all the essential ingredients for Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Sliders: King's Hawaiian rolls, various cheeses, ground breakfast sausage, scrambled eggs, pure maple syrup, melted butter, and poppy seeds laid out for preparation.
  • Hawaiian Sweet Rolls: The undeniable star of the show! These soft, fluffy, and subtly sweet rolls are crucial for the classic, mouth-watering flavor profile of these sliders. They typically come in convenient sheets of 12, which makes assembly incredibly easy as they can be sliced as one unit. Simply cut the entire sheet horizontally through the middle to separate the top and bottom halves. While King’s Hawaiian rolls are the gold standard and highly recommended for their authentic taste and texture, any similar soft, sweet slider bun will work wonderfully.
  • Cheddar Cheese: We utilize a smart combination of both sliced and shredded cheddar cheese for maximum cheesiness, optimal melt, and perfect coverage. Sliced cheese creates a nice, even base layer, while shredded cheese ensures every nook and cranny of the filling is enveloped in gooey goodness. Feel free to use mild, medium, or sharp cheddar based on your personal preference for cheese intensity.
  • Eggs: This recipe calls for about 12 large eggs, which conveniently works out to approximately one egg per slider, providing a substantial and protein-rich filling. Scramble them until they are fluffy and cooked through, but be careful not to overcook them, as they will bake further in the oven. For enhanced flavor, remember to season your scrambled eggs generously with a pinch of salt and pepper to taste. You can always add a few more eggs if you prefer a thicker egg layer, or slightly less if you desire a lighter touch.
  • Breakfast Sausage: This ingredient forms the savory anchor of these delightful sliders! Cook and crumble your favorite brand of breakfast sausage until it’s nicely browned and fully cooked. You have options here: choose a mild sausage for a classic taste, a spicy one for a little kick, or even a maple-flavored sausage to further complement the sweetness of the rolls and glaze. For ultimate convenience, pre-cooked sausage crumbles can also be used; just make sure to warm them slightly before layering.
  • Maple Syrup: This isn’t just for topping pancakes! The pure maple syrup is combined with melted butter to create a sweet, glossy, and slightly savory glaze that’s brushed generously over the top buns before baking. This crucial step adds an extra layer of sweetness, contributes significantly to that beautiful golden-brown crust, and most importantly, helps the poppy seeds (or other chosen toppings) adhere perfectly. Always opt for pure maple syrup for the best, most authentic flavor.
  • Butter: An essential component for both the delectable glaze and as a potential dipping sauce for the finished sliders. Melted butter forms the rich and flavorful base of our sweet topping. You can use either salted or unsalted butter; just remember to adjust any additional salt in your eggs or sausage mixture accordingly if you opt for salted butter.
  • Poppy Seeds: These tiny seeds provide a fantastic textural contrast and a classic “deli slider” appearance, adding an extra layer of visual appeal. They introduce a subtle, nutty crunch to the finished breakfast sliders, elevating their overall texture. If poppy seeds aren’t your preference or you don’t have them on hand, you can easily omit them or substitute with sesame seeds or even a sprinkle of everything bagel seasoning for a different savory touch.

How to Assemble and Bake Your Delicious King’s Hawaiian Breakfast Sliders

Follow these simple step-by-step instructions, complete with helpful photos, to create the perfect batch of Hawaiian roll breakfast sliders. For the comprehensive printable recipe card with all exact measurements and detailed cooking notes, scroll down to the end of this post.

Before you begin assembling, ensure your breakfast sausage is cooked and crumbled, and your eggs are scrambled. Preheat your oven to 350° F (175° C) to be ready for baking.

Step 1: Prepare the Rolls and Baking Dish. Carefully slice the entire sheet of Hawaiian sweet rolls in half horizontally, through the middle, to perfectly separate the top buns from the bottom buns. The key here is to keep them all connected as one large, cohesive piece. Once sliced, place the entire bottom half of the rolls evenly into a 9×13-inch baking dish or onto a large, rimmed cookie sheet. This creates a sturdy and convenient base for your delicious fillings.

On the left, a sheet of Hawaiian slider buns is being sliced horizontally to perfectly separate the bottoms from the tops, demonstrating a key preparation step. On the right, the bottom halves of the slider buns are neatly arranged on a metal baking sheet, ready for the layers of delicious fillings.

Step 2: Layer Your Breakfast Fillings. Begin by arranging an even layer of sliced cheddar cheese over the bottom buns. This creates a wonderful barrier and ensures maximum melt and a perfectly gooey cheese pull. Next, spread your fluffy scrambled eggs evenly over the cheese layer, followed by the cooked and crumbled breakfast sausage. Finish this layer by generously sprinkling the shredded cheddar cheese over the sausage and eggs, ensuring full coverage. Finally, carefully place the top half of the rolls back over your layered fillings, gently pressing down to secure everything and create a cohesive slider sheet.

A four-image collage vividly illustrating the step-by-step process of adding layers to Hawaiian slider buns: 1) neatly placing cheese slices, 2) spreading fluffy scrambled eggs, 3) scattering savory ground sausage, and 4) generously sprinkling shredded cheese for the delicious final layer.

Step 3: Prepare the Buttery Maple Glaze. In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Heat it in short 10-second increments, stirring after each, until it’s completely liquid and smooth. Once melted, add the maple syrup to the bowl and stir vigorously to combine both ingredients thoroughly. This sweet and savory glaze is a critical component that truly makes these breakfast sliders irresistible and adds depth of flavor!

Step 4: Brush and Garnish the Tops. Using a clean pastry brush, generously coat the tops of the slider buns with your prepared maple butter glaze. Ensure an even application over all the buns for a beautiful, glossy, golden finish once baked. Immediately after brushing, liberally sprinkle the poppy seeds over the glazed buns. The sticky glaze will help them adhere perfectly, adding a pleasant textural contrast and a classic look.

On the left, a silicone pastry brush expertly applies a glistening buttery maple syrup glaze to the tops of the slider buns, preparing them for baking. On the right, poppy seeds are being artfully sprinkled over the glazed bun tops, adding a final touch and crunch before the sliders head into the oven.

Step 5: Cover and Bake to Perfection. Lightly cover the baking dish with aluminum foil. This crucial step helps to steam the sliders slightly, ensuring the rolls stay wonderfully soft and the cheese melts perfectly without the tops browning too quickly or becoming dry. Bake in your preheated 350° F (175° C) oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is wonderfully melted, bubbly, and the tops of the rolls achieve a beautiful golden brown hue. If you desire a slightly crispier top, you can remove the foil for the last 5 minutes of baking.

Step 6: Slice, Serve, and Savor. Once baked, carefully remove the dish from the oven. Allow the sliders to rest for a few minutes before slicing them into individual, perfectly portioned sandwiches. While they’re baking, you can combine any remainder of the maple syrup and melted butter in a small bowl to create an extra, irresistible dipping sauce – a delicious touch, much like the beloved concept of our French Dip Sliders! Serve immediately with your favorite breakfast sides, like fresh fruit or a refreshing glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Enjoy every savory, sweet, and cheesy bite!

Pro Tip: Make-Ahead & Meal Prep for Ultimate Convenience

These breakfast sliders are absolutely perfect for meal prepping and making ahead, which is undoubtedly one of their biggest advantages! Imagine having a delicious, hot breakfast ready with minimal effort on even the busiest weekday morning. Here’s how you can prepare them in advance, ensuring a stress-free start to your day:

Option 1: Assemble and Refrigerate Overnight (Baked as a Sheet)
This method is fantastic for Sunday brunches or when expecting morning guests. Assemble the entire sheet of sliders in your baking dish, following all the layering steps and even brushing with the maple butter glaze and poppy seeds. Instead of baking immediately, securely cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Place it in the refrigerator overnight (it will stay fresh for up to 12-18 hours). The next morning, simply pop the covered dish into a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the sliders are heated through, golden, and the cheese is beautifully melted and bubbly. Remove the foil for the last 5-10 minutes if you prefer a crispier top.

Option 2: Individual Wrapped Sliders for On-the-Go
For ultimate grab-and-go convenience, you can assemble the sliders, slice them into individual portions, and then wrap each one tightly in aluminum foil. This makes them perfectly portable for school lunches, work breakfasts, or even a quick bite during a road trip. Place the individually wrapped sliders into a large Ziploc bag or an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to 2 days. When ready to eat, simply unwrap one (or more!), create a small opening in the foil to allow some air circulation, and bake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 15-20 minutes, or until warmed through. Alternatively, for a super quick reheat, microwave for 30-60 seconds (unwrapped) until hot. This individual wrapping method is also fantastic for easy cleanup!

Storing & Reheating Leftover Breakfast Sliders

These Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Sliders are so incredibly delicious, you might not have any leftovers! But if you do, rest assured that they store and reheat beautifully, ensuring you can enjoy them for days to come without compromising on taste or texture.

Refrigerator: To store any remaining sliders, first allow them to cool completely to room temperature. This prevents condensation and keeps the rolls from getting soggy. Then, you can either cover the entire baking dish tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or transfer the individual sliders to an airtight container. They will stay fresh and delicious in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.

Freezer: For longer-term storage, you can also successfully freeze these breakfast sliders! Once cooled to room temperature, wrap individual sliders tightly in plastic wrap, then again in a layer of aluminum foil for double protection against freezer burn. Place the double-wrapped sliders in a freezer-safe bag or container. They can be frozen for up to 1-2 months. Thaw them overnight in the refrigerator before reheating for best results.

How to Reheat:

  • Microwave: For a super quick reheat, place an unwrapped slider on a microwave-safe plate and heat for 10-30 seconds, depending on your microwave’s power, or until warmed through. Be careful not to overheat, as the rolls can become tough if microwaved too long.
  • Oven: For the absolute best results, especially if reheating multiple sliders or if reheating from frozen (after thawing), place them on a baking sheet. You can loosely cover them with foil to prevent them from drying out. Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is wonderfully gooey and the sliders are heated through. If reheating from thawed, this might take closer to 20-25 minutes.
  • Air Fryer: An air fryer is an excellent tool for crisping up the rolls slightly while reheating the inside. Reheat unwrapped sliders in a preheated air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for 3-5 minutes, or until hot and slightly crispy on the outside.

Top Tips for Making the Absolute Best Breakfast Sliders

Achieving perfectly delicious and crave-worthy breakfast sliders every single time is easy with these helpful expert tips:

  • Choose Quality Rolls: While King’s Hawaiian rolls are widely regarded as a favorite for their signature sweetness and incredibly soft texture, any brand of soft, slightly sweet slider buns will work beautifully. The key is their tenderness and ability to absorb the butter glaze, so always opt for fresh, good-quality rolls for the best results.
  • Keep Rolls Connected for Easy Assembly: A smart trick for effortless preparation is to slice the entire sheet of rolls horizontally in one go (instead of separating them into individual buns first). This ingenious method makes assembly incredibly quick and easy, as it allows you to build the “sandwich” as one large slab, then simply slice into individual portions after baking.
  • Don’t Overcook the Eggs: For the best texture, aim for light, fluffy scrambled eggs that are just set. Scrambled eggs can become rubbery and dry if cooked too long, so pull them off the heat a little before they’re fully firm, as they will continue to cook slightly in the oven with the sliders.
  • Pre-Cook Sausage Properly: Ensure your breakfast sausage is fully cooked and crumbled before layering it onto the buns. This guarantees even cooking and perfect flavor distribution within the sliders. Additionally, make sure to drain any excess grease thoroughly to prevent the rolls from becoming soggy and heavy.
  • Layer Thoughtfully: Strategically placing a slice of cheese directly on the bottom bun before adding the eggs and sausage can act as a wonderful barrier. This helps prevent the bread from getting too moist from the fillings. The shredded cheese on top ensures maximum melt and helps the top bun adhere perfectly to the filling.
  • Don’t Skip the Glaze: The buttery maple syrup glaze is a non-negotiable step that truly elevates these sliders from good to absolutely fantastic. It adds a delicious sweet and savory depth, creates a beautiful golden crust, and helps the poppy seeds (or any other chosen topping) stick perfectly.
  • Cover During Baking: Covering the sliders with aluminum foil for the majority of the baking time is crucial for success. It creates a steamy environment that ensures the cheese melts perfectly into a gooey layer and keeps the rolls wonderfully soft and moist. You can remove the foil for the last 5-10 minutes if you prefer a slightly crispier, more golden-brown top.
  • Serving Size Matters: This recipe is designed to yield 12 delicious sliders, which will typically feed about 6 people comfortably, assuming everyone enjoys two satisfying sliders. Adjust your quantities accordingly if you’re feeding a larger crowd or want more (or fewer) leftovers for future meals.
  • Let Them Rest: After taking the baked sliders out of the oven, it’s beneficial to let them rest for a few minutes before slicing into individual portions. This crucial resting period allows the melted cheese and other fillings to set slightly, resulting in cleaner, less messy cuts and better-formed sandwiches.

Can You Assemble These Breakfast Sliders the Night Before? Absolutely!

One of the absolute best features of these Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Sliders is their incredibly make-ahead friendly nature, which makes busy mornings so much easier! You absolutely can prepare these delicious sliders the night before and bake them fresh in the morning, ensuring a delicious and hot breakfast with minimal effort.

To prepare them ahead: Follow all the assembly steps as instructed: slice the rolls, meticulously layer the sliced cheese, fluffy scrambled eggs, savory sausage, and shredded cheese, and then replace the top buns. You can even go ahead and brush them with the delectable maple butter glaze and sprinkle them with poppy seeds at this stage. Once fully assembled, simply cover the entire baking dish tightly with aluminum foil or plastic wrap and place it carefully in the refrigerator. In the morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the covered sliders for 25-30 minutes, or until they are beautifully golden brown, heated through, and the cheese is perfectly melted and bubbly. For those who prefer a crispier top, simply remove the foil for the last 5-10 minutes of baking.

This advanced preparation method ensures that you wake up to a nearly ready breakfast, significantly minimizing your morning cooking time and maximizing your relaxation and enjoyment of a delicious, homemade meal!

Perfect Pairings: Serving Suggestions for Your Breakfast Sliders

These Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Sliders are a complete and satisfying meal in themselves, but pairing them with a few complementary sides can truly elevate your breakfast experience even further, especially when serving them as part of a lavish brunch spread!

  • Fresh Fruit: A classic and wonderfully refreshing complement! We absolutely love serving ours with a vibrant side of fresh fruit slices, such as sweet melon, a medley of colorful berries (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries), or a beautifully prepared fruit salad. The crisp, sweet, and juicy flavors of fresh fruit provide a delightful and palate-cleansing contrast to the rich, savory, and cheesy sliders.
  • Yogurt Parfaits: For an added touch of freshness, probiotics, and a creamy texture, consider preparing individual yogurt parfaits. Layer creamy Greek yogurt with crunchy granola and an assortment of fresh berries or other fruits.
  • Breakfast Potatoes: If you’re looking for something heartier and more substantial, a side of crispy hash browns, home fries, or perfectly roasted breakfast potatoes would be a fantastic and comforting addition to your meal.
  • Green Salad (for Brunch): For a more sophisticated and lighter brunch presentation, a light green salad tossed with a zesty vinaigrette dressing can beautifully cut through the richness of the sliders, adding a fresh element.

Beverage Pairings: To wash down these delectable sliders and complete your breakfast experience, consider these refreshing and invigorating beverage options:

  • Coffee or Tea: A classic hot cup of freshly brewed coffee, a creamy latte, or your favorite morning tea (whether black, green, or herbal) is always a perfect and comforting companion.
  • Fresh Juices: Freshly squeezed orange juice offers a tangy and bright counterpoint that cleanses the palate, or try a vibrant grapefruit juice for something a little different.
  • Smoothies: For something extra special and nutritious, I highly recommend a creamy strawberry banana smoothie, which adds a refreshing fruity note. Or, for a unique and visually stunning twist, try one of my delicious Starbucks copycat recipes like the tropical watermelon refresher or the vibrantly colored dragon fruit drink.

Endless Customization: Fun Additions and Variations for Your Sliders

One of the absolute best things about this Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Slider recipe is its incredible versatility! Feel free to get creative and customize the fillings and toppings to perfectly suit your family’s preferences, accommodate various diets, or simply use whatever delicious ingredients you happen to have on hand. Here are some fantastic ideas to inspire your next batch:

  • Alternate Protein Choices: If breakfast sausage isn’t quite what you’re craving, there are plenty of other savory options:
    • Deli Meats: Try layering thin slices of deli ham, turkey, or even a flavorful pastrami for a different, yet equally delicious, flavor profile.
    • Bacon: Crispy bacon strips or crunchy crumbled bacon bits are always a welcome and popular addition. Cook them ahead of time until they’re perfectly crisp for the best texture.
    • Other Sausages: Experiment with different types of ground pork sausage, pre-cooked sausage patties (just cut them to fit the rolls if needed), or even a spicy chorizo for a vibrant and zesty kick.
    • Vegetarian Option: For a delightful meat-free version, consider using plant-based breakfast sausage crumbles, or simply load up on extra veggies and cheese!
  • Egg Preparation Your Way: While fluffy scrambled eggs are a fantastic choice, don’t limit yourself to just one method of egg preparation!
    • You can use thinly cooked fried eggs (one per slider), prepare a large batch of “sheet pan eggs” and cut them to size, or even use only egg whites for a lighter, lower-calorie option.
    • For extra richness and tenderness, add a splash of milk or cream to your scrambled eggs before cooking.
  • Boost with Veggies: Enhance the nutritional value, color, and flavor by incorporating finely diced vegetables into your scrambled egg mixture, or layer them directly onto the buns beneath the cheese. Great options include:
    • Diced bell peppers (any color for a pop of freshness)
    • Lightly sautéed mushrooms for an earthy depth
    • Fresh spinach or kale, wilted and squeezed dry to remove excess moisture
    • Sweet caramelized onions for a hint of savory sweetness
    • Diced jalapeños or a touch of hot sauce for those who love a spicy kick
  • Creative Glaze & Topping Options: Don’t stop at poppy seeds!
    • Different Garnish: If poppy seeds aren’t your favorite, try sprinkling the tops with everything bagel seasoning for a savory, nutty, and garlicky crunch, or simple sesame seeds for a milder flavor. A dash of garlic powder can also be added directly to the butter glaze for an extra savory twist.
    • Spicy Glaze: For those who appreciate a touch of heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of cayenne pepper to your maple butter glaze.
  • Switch Up the Cheese: The type of cheese you choose can dramatically change the overall flavor profile of your sliders. Beyond classic cheddar, consider:
    • American cheese slices (for ultimate meltiness and a classic diner feel)
    • Colby Jack or Monterey Jack for a milder, creamier, and beautifully melty cheese layer
    • Swiss or Gruyere for a nutty, more sophisticated, and slightly sharper flavor
    • Provolone or mozzarella for an Italian-inspired twist
    • Or, get truly adventurous and use a delightful combination of two or three different cheeses for a complex and layered flavor!
  • Sweet & Savory Glaze Variations: Experiment with adding a touch of Dijon mustard or a few drops of Worcestershire sauce into the butter glaze. This creates an extra layer of savory depth and umami, leading to a more complex and “sandwich-like” flavor profile that is surprisingly delicious.
